Scholarships


The organization and its chapters provide more than $500,000 dollars annually across North America in scholarships to undergraduates, graduates and doctoral students pursuing careers in business. The program's mission is to identify and increase the pool of Black talent for business, public, private and non-profit sectors.

 

National Black MBA Association & Xerox Canada

The NBMBAA (Toronto Chapter) and Xerox Canada have named two Canadian students recipients of their inaugural scholarships, recognizing excellence in diversity and innovation. The students received a one-time financial award of $3000, a four-month paid internship with Xerox Canada Ltd, mentorship by a NBMBAA member and a one-year NBMBAA student membership.

 

Kristen Willmot, from Waterloo, Ontario, received the Undergraduate award and is a first year student at the Richard Ivey School of Business, Western Ontario University. In addition to being on the Dean’s Honor’s List, Wilmot works with special needs children in her community and is assistant captain of her soccer team. She plans to specialize in either marketing or finance.

 

Christina Sackeyfio, from Brampton, Ontario, will enter the Schulich School of Business, York University in Fall 2009 to pursue her MBA. Sackeyfio already has a Masters Degree in education from the University of Toronto and will combine that with her experience as Program Director of the “Literacy through Hip Hop Program for youth”

 

The selection committee received applications from business students at 10 Canadian universities and business schools nationwide. The selection criteria included high academic achievement, recognized contribution to the community and demonstrated leadership skills as supported by transcripts, letters of recommendations and responses to essay questions. The committee found that the process was a very challenging and rewarding one given the initiative and high level of achievement of all the applicants.

National Black MBA Association Headquarters' Scholarships

UNDERGRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The NBMBAA National Undergraduate Scholarship Program will disburse a $1,000 undergraduate scholarship to a minority business candidate. This recipient will be identified by the Toronto Chapter. The recipient will be selected based upon their written response to an essay topic, level of extra-curricular activity and community involvement, grade point average and interview score. Awardees are honored in the conference edition of the Black MBA Magazine.

 

MBA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

The NBMBAA National MBA Scholarship Program awards scholarships to the top applicants identified through our annual essay competition. Recipients are selected based upon their written response to an essay topic, most recent grade point average, verbal communication skills, and level of extra-curricular activities and community involvement.

 

PhD FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

The NBMBAA National PhD Fellowship Program awards two fellowships annually to qualified individuals identified through our application process. Recipients are selected based upon their written response to a research topic, most recent grade point average, verbal communication skills, and level of extra-curricular activities and community involvement. The fellowship package includes monetary awards, travel, accommodations and registration to our annual Conference. The fellowship amounts range from $5,000 to 15,000.
